Shirley:

 An Awakening

About the show

A slick, unique, perfectly crafted piece of theatre
— The Yorkshire Times on Mother of the Revolution

“If you think romance is ahead, you never were more mistaken…

Do you feel the ground swell? Do you feel the earthquake?”

Yorkshire, 1811.

A village is tearing apart at the seams.

A global force of progress and fear, raging like a tidal wave.

A woman, less flesh and more lightning.

A worker, starved for a voice.

A migrant mill owner, with “forward” stamped on his soul.

And the heart that holds them all - whose beat can change the rhythm of a revolution.

Shirley: An Awakening is an new gig-musical reimagining of Charlotte Brontë’s final novel. A hymn of resistance and a howl for change.

An archipelago arts collective production in association with Leeds Industrial Museum.
